Sons of American Legion
The Sons of The American Legion (SAL), established in 1932, honors U.S. veterans through service and support. Comprised of male descendants of American Legion members or wartime veterans, SAL bolsters The American Legion’s mission across its Four Pillars: aiding veterans and families, promoting patriotism, mentoring youth, and advocating for national defense. Based in Indianapolis, SAL’s 397,000+ members nationwide volunteer over 500,000 hours at VA hospitals and raise millions for causes like The American Legion Child Welfare Foundation.
SAL squadrons, linked to local Legion posts, provide community-focused programs, including scholarships, veterans’ assistance (e.g., combating homelessness), and youth initiatives like sports and Boys State. Eligible members include sons, grandsons, or stepsons of Legionnaires or deceased veterans from World War I onward. Non-political and non-sectarian, SAL emphasizes service, teaching values like justice and freedom.
At Post 143, our SAL squadron proudly upholds this legacy, supporting veterans, engaging youth, and preserving American ideals—united for God and Country.
