If you have served at least one day of federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since December 7, 1941, and have been honorably discharged or still be serving honorably. Eligibility is not based on service location. It includes active duty members and veterans from various branches, including the national guard and Reserves, provided they served under Title 10 orders, not Title 32. Membership also extends to U.S. Merchant Marines who served during World War II from December 7, 1941 to August 15,1945. Applicants must provide proof of service via a DD-214 form and pay annual dues.

Squadron 143 Membership, shall be limited to a male descendant (son, grandson, great-grandson, adopted, or stepson) of members of The American Legion, and who were in the Armed Forces of the United States during specified eligibility periods
(April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918, and any time after December 7, 1941) who were U.S. citizens at the time of service and either died in the line of duty or after an honorable discharge. Applicants must be affiliated with a current American Legion member and must provide a valid Legion ID number. If Veteran is deceased, documentation proofing their service is necessary, and pay annual dues.

Auxiliary Membership shall be limited to the grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion, and who were in the Armed Forces of the United States during specified eligibility periods
(April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918, and any time after December 7, 1941) who were U.S. citizens at the time of service and either died in the line of duty or after an honorable discharge. Applicants must be affiliated with a current American Legion member and must provide a valid Legion ID number.
