Introducing our Post Service Officer:
A Trusted Resource for Our Veterans
I’m Merle Black. I’m a Vietnam veteran who served in Thailand, with a background in business statistics and economics from the University of Oklahoma, and an MBA from the University of Utah. I was commissioned through the Air Force ROTC and completed extensive training, including the Air Force basic and advanced communications officer courses, Squadron Officers School, Air Command and Staff College, and the Air War College. Over the past four years, I’ve volunteered with a veterans’ organization, helping others navigate the VA claims process—experience I gained while successfully appealing my own Agent Orange claim from 0% to 100%. I’m here to assist American Legion veterans in accessing the benefits they deserve.
Post Service Officer:
Your Advocate for Veterans’ Benefits
The Post Service Officer has knowledge of various services, including VA disability benefits, educational assistance, employment aid, and death benefits. They act as a vital link between you and accredited Veteran Service Officers, who can handle official paperwork and claims. This connection can be essential in ensuring that your claims are processed efficiently and accurately.
For example, they can walk you through the process of applying for benefits, help you understand your entitlements, and direct you to resources for military funeral honors or assistance with reviews of less-than-honorable discharges. Their role goes beyond just filling out forms; it's about advocating, ensuring that veterans and their families are effectively represented and supported.
Whether you're looking to maximize your benefits, need assistance with claims, or simply want to learn more about what's available to you, feel free to reach out to our Post Service Officer. This service is included in your membership and ensures you receive every benefit you've earned. Let's make the most of it!
